Fondazione Genti d'Abruzzo

The Genti d’Abruzzo Foundation aims to promote culture and art by enhancing regional and national heritage. It collaborates with institutions responsible for the protection, restoration, and accessibility of cultural assets. Its activities, both scientific and educational, also focus on culture and tourism and target a diverse audience. The Foundation works in cooperation with professionals, institutions, and research, conservation, and protection bodies. To achieve its goals, the Foundation supports the creation and direct management of local and regional museums, archaeological and natural parks (eco-museums), and the training of specialized personnel. This is done within an integrated system for the planning and promotion of museums and cultural heritage. Since its establishment in 1998, the Foundation has promoted and carried out educational initiatives for various audiences—including tourists, researchers, students, families, young professionals, people with disabilities, and the elderly—encouraging the active participation and understanding of cultural heritage. Following a multi-year agreement with the Municipality of Pescara, the museums currently managed by the Foundation are the Genti d’Abruzzo Museum and the “Basilio Cascella” Civic Museum. Recognized as one of the most pioneering institutions among national demo-anthropological museums, the Genti d’Abruzzo Museum stands out for its innovation. It boasts a rich collection of archaeological and ethnographic artifacts, immersive reconstructions, engaging exhibitions, dioramas, multimedia stations, historical photographs, and traditional folk songs that guide visitors through an evocative journey. The museum offers an original and engaging interpretation of the ethnic formation, historical evolution, traditions, customs, and craftsmanship of the region’s agro-pastoral communities. There are many partnerships with associations, cultural institutions, public and private entities, schools, and universities for the co-design of shared initiatives and programs aimed at protecting, enhancing and promoting cultural heritage. Thanks to the numerous educational initiatives undertaken over the years by the Genti d’Abruzzo Foundation, the museums it manages have not only played a role in safeguarding and preserving heritage but have also served as a connective fabric for local communities and territories, a space for gathering and socialisation, a place for knowledge-building, and a means of strengthening collective identity and sense of belonging.
